Filing for Unemployment Insurance – Do not delay!

Written by WVMFT

If you are an associate faculty member and you do not have an assignment between terms, you are eligible for Unemployment Insurance (UI). UI is not retroactive, so it is important to apply as soon as possible, i.e. the last day of the term.

Due the Federal CARES Act, the normal cap on benefits of $450/week has been increases by $600/week. Thus the maximum UI benefit is $1,050/week until August.

WVMFT is referring all eligible associate faculty to the following websites:

Very helpful sites prepared by John Govsky from Cabrillo College:

  • http://contingentworld.com/unemployment/unemployment_new.php (new claim)
  • http://contingentworld.com/unemployment/unemployment_reopen.php (reopening a claim)

CCA/CTA is offering a zoom workshop on how to file for UI benefits. This workshop is scheduled for May 27th at 5pm and is open to all. Registration is required and can be found here:  https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMrde2qpzIqGNONi-LgDAgswNequOqZdCns

Here is a CFT Training module on UI: CFT UI Training

Here is a CTA (Calif. Teachers Association) training module on UI: CTA UI Training

Here is a WVMFT document  with additional resources and a list of questions that will be asked in the application process: WVMFT doc

Our union also provides UI info on our website: https://aft6554.org/unemployment/

Please note.. There is a one-week waiting period after you apply for benefits. Benefits are paid weekly from Sunday through Saturday. Apply TODAY to avoid missing a week of benefits!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to one of us.
